Horizon Freight System, founded in 1983, has become one of the country’s most stable, fastest growing and dependable intermodal carriers. By 2004, the company had grown to operate terminals in more than 30 major cities throughout the United States. Horizon has a fleet of over 650 trucks to service our customers.
Intermodal Services
Horizon partners with railroads, steamship companies, third-party intermodal providers, and directly with shippers to deliver freight to virtually any location in the United States. Our terminals offer a variety of services – local, regional, and long haul.
Equipment Repositioning
Often our customers will need to reposition their empty containers to more strategic locations to better services their shippers. Horizon can be counted on to deliver containers timely to virtually any location in our service area.
Cross Towns
This time-sensitive service is available at all major railroad interchanges. Horizon prides itself on being the “Connecting Carrier”.
Special Commodities
Horizon’s Special Commodity Division is adept at handling oversized, over-dimensional cargo. Call us for all your out-of-gauge needs.
Team Drivers
Horizon specializes in recovery work. If you have just-in-time loads, Horizon has a special unit available to aid in your relief and recovery work.

Skilled Drivers
At Horizon, we take the role of safety and risk-management seriously. Each driver is selected by stringent guidelines based on the operator’s entire driving history and hauling experience. Our operators are expected to comply not only with Department of Transportation regulations, but also with Horizon standards, which significantly exceed the industry norm. All of our drivers complete a thorough orientation. This includes training in the importance of on-time delivery, customer service requirements, and defensive driving techniques.
